That is a set that is on my Wish List Seán so I would be interested to read what you think of it when you have completed it.

Hi Fergus, I am not inclined to listen to all of the cds in a large box set when the music is entirely new to me. As you know, I am not particulary fond of listening to the human voice either; years of pop and bloody awful jazz singers have worn me down in that regard. I do though enjoy listening to classical singers for short spells at a time.

I am partial to some singers and I have a particulard fondness for DFD, his early Mahler recordings are particularly special, I feel. I have now listened to three cds from the Schubert set (above) and the one that I have settled on for now is number 20, Winterreise, I don't have the text yet, so I have no idea what DFD is singing about, but I really do love the way he does it and Moore is a lovely, non intrusive, strong accompanist. If you are fond of Schubert's Lieder then I would imagine that this is a particularly good set. At the start of every listening I usually play the first five to ten Winterisse songs, they really do grow on one with repeated listening.

I really do like this set and I am glad I bought it, I expect that it will provide me with very many years of listening pleasure.

I would be interested to learn what Ciaran makes of DFD and Moore's interpretations of Schubert's Lieder?
