Franz Schubert
Trout Piano Quintet

Jenö Jandó & Kodály Quartet

No day would be complete without a daily diet of trout served up by Jandó and the Kodály, it is lovely music-making.

This has long been a favourite version of this work and it stands comparison with any other.
Will I? I wonder.
Why would you not....it is an excellent cycle with stand out performances from the Brass and Timpani sections in particular and with strong performances throughout!!

There are some performances in music that are dear to your heart and this is one of those for me.

agreed wholeheartedly... I really don't understand the strength of feeling shown by this piece's detractors... for me, it's one of the finest Religious Choral Works of its era, and this is a particularly fine performance. Having eventually had the courage to sell the Karajan version (too laboured and mushy) on ebay, I will be looking for a replacement to complement this one in due course, but it will be another with smaller forces I think... any suggestions?

For what it's worth, Chalkie loves Herr SSRattle's recording, now there's a surprise.

For me, this one just edges out the Gardiner one.

Dave, that looks to be a very intriguing recommendation... it's been added to my Amazon WL; thanks!

I think you summed that sentence up early on, Sean... ;-)
