remote mania

Post by DNT »

I probably should have put this out before I bought my new remote, so I could benefit from advice from forum members, but here goes anyway.

I have recently purchased a Logitech Harmony One (in Peats for €149) which I would highly recommend.

Having dabbled in a number of remotes over the years, and recently, having begun to get into digital TV with the UPC box and the TV controls etc, I thought I had got the answer when I got a "One for All" gadget. Initially it seemed to work fine, although it was tricky to programme. A few weeks ago, after just about 8 months use, it just "upped and died", without any warning!

When looking for a replacement, I came across the Harmony on the web and eventually bought one from Peats. It seems to be able to handle just about anything you throw at it (although Arcam do it no favours by having similar codes on a lot of their equipment).

What really makes it simple is that you set it up on a computer to do whatever you want, and the end-user, just presses one button to start the whole thing up and set all inputs etc. You can programme each key individually so that it does exactly what you want it to do, and all buttons on the original remote for the device are available on the 'Harmony One'. Ideal for spouses who keep giving out that they can't watch a DVD because they haven't got a degree in remote control usage!!!

I wonder if anyone else has any other devices to recommend, or stories to tell about their remotes.

Denis

Harmony are definitely easier than others to set up - and I recnetly bought one of them in Dixons or currys for 15 euro, not the top model but a 525...........
Do or do not, there is no try
