I must admit, I have very similar feelings about the Ormandy version of Titan, with the New Phil...fergus wrote: You have got it in one Jared! the winner however is a truly stunning version of the Britten, which made me re-evaluate the piece as a whole... it's also very reasonably priced.

2nd traversal through this set... op.18 nos 4-6... it's every bit as good as its reputation as a masterpiece from the late '50s suggests... the sound has been massively improved through Sony's 24 bit remastering, however some of the tell-tale signs of its age still, inevitably remain. It is a shame that these box sets weren't issued with any booklets, but we should be more than grateful that they have been reissued for our generation at such a bargain price!
