Speakers for large kitchen/Dining area

Post by phelixoflaherty »

As thread states looking for speakers for a new open plan area. Furnishing will be discrete so wondering what would be best Wired/wireless.
The floors have not yet been poured so would trunking be best.
A wireless system would suit I suppose but would the sound sound weak in such a large area?
Thanks

I would not consider wireless ..

There are two possibilities with wireless ...

a) speakers are wireless but plug into mains [so they have to be near a power source but not near the amp]

b) speakers are battery driven but you have to plug them in at night [wires all over the floor] to charge them.

If you have the option put ducting in the floor so you can run speaker cable [ducting so you can change it later if you wish] and consider putting in ducting to support a home-cimema system.

Put in 4" wavin for the ducting and leave in 2 ropes for pulling later..... makes life very easy over 2" ducting!! Do this anyway. Also, you could wire in some 2.5 T&E and just leave it there for use as speaker cable later. There are nice enough plates you can fit later. Note many would frown on the 2.5 T&E, but I think it would still be better than wireless.

Don't think wireless is an option, at least not for sound quality anyway. And as James says, you would still need to plug them in.

Ducting is cheap so leave yourself as many options as you possibly can now.
