Scam Gumtree ads in Cork

There's a bunch of stuff listed on Gumtree, GamuT, Linn, Krell etc. all too cheap - I presume they're all scams?

Usually if it looks too good, it is too good!


Having said that, it might be worth setting up a dummy email address and emailing the seller just to see. A few techy hifi questions should tell you all you need to know - and when the request for payment by western union comes, you definitely will know!!!

edit: forgot to say, another really good thing to do is to take some the text of the ad and stick it into a google search. If the guy has just copied the ad from another legit ad, eg audiogon or ebay, then google should throw it up....

I see what you mean.

At first I thought that some of the items were merely "keenly priced", but then more and more unusual items started showing up. The Red Rose Model 1 at €4,800 would be very interesting if real. They retailed at $25,000...
