I didn't get full bass until my system had warmed up, thought that I was getting everything in good proportion after that. Shall try it without the raw setting to see if the new prefetch method is a step forward or not.erin wrote:listening on Win8.1sbgk wrote:uploaded 2.69 sse2 intel, this has the new method of prefetching and the raw setting. Seems to have everything, sweet, detailed, good bass, good vocals. Shall stop here and base the other versions on this one.
I think this version has very much upwards slanted sound.
Its going a long way away from a natural clean studio sound and entering some other weird territory.
This version sounds light weight. Bass is nowhere. mids are recessed. Highs are weird, like there is a shimmering distortion.
Apologies, but I need to say what I hear. And I can find no other way to say it. I do not mean to be impolite.

Re: MQN
Just did the 8.1 upgrade on the audio pc this morning and had a quick listen.
It seemed cleaner and more relaxed with 2.66 mfence.
I have just had a listen to 2.69 and it certainly does not lack bass on my system, nor can I detect any oddities of balance. In fact it sounds very enjoyable, still with the rich seem of detail and dynamics. Need more time of course but it doesn't seem like a step back in any way.

After installing 8.1 do I need to go and do the registry change again as outlined in the MQn readme?

Re: MQN
you are right. this version is great. listening again. new sensation.erin wrote:2.53 sse4 intel eac
i remember this version had earaches when i had Win32PrioritySeparation=18. much earaches have disappeared (still plenty of earaches) after i changed it to 28 with a new clockrate. digital jitter is fascinating.

I just did the update today and yes, I needed to readjust the registry settings. So I think it is at least worth checking.

Has anybody with Win 8.1 bumped into this error yet? I still don't know why it's happening.cvrle59 wrote:I am getting an error since I upgraded to Win 8.1
ERROR: The process "mqnplay.exe" with PID 7636 could not be terminated.
Reason: Access is denied.
This happens on loading, but it would continue to play.
Any idea...thanks!
