I think the usb stick should be formatted as FAT32. Not exFAT or NTFS.

I have actually finally figured out the problem. Apart from forgetting the path name when I figured it out nothing worked. I sorted it out by logging into the qnap and searching for a music file I knew existed

find . -name Stravinsky -print

I logged in with ssh but I think putty on windows also works.

When I found the file I had the pathname.
