Re: New DIY Tube Amplifier Project

Nice work. One small point: the heater supply is AC and the cabling needs to be as far away as possible to the signal cables. In your pic above, I would get those 'blue' twisted cables into the angle at the back of the chassis and keep them there with a spot of glue. The gain structure might be diff...

Re: Musical Fidelity Elektra e200 preamp

Fran, I have a MF Elektra E100 integrated amp that might help solve your problem. It is being used for computer sounds/music, you are welcome to open it up for a look. Text or call me anytime.

Re: Tony Joe White RIP

Heard this sad news a few days ago. I think it was Derek or Fran who first alerted me to his music. One Hot July and Lake Placid Blues are among my go to CDs. RIP.

Re: BBC2 Life in 12 Bars

I read his autobiography, thus I had a reasonable understanding of his childhood problems, his music, his addictions and his tragedies. I recorded 'Life in 12 Bars' and simply never got round to watching it. Eventually I did and with one thing or another, I had to split the viewing into three fairly...

Re: Gigs you might like...

I got to a gig in THE FIELD pub in Kilkenny City, Rob Strong was playing and he is GOOD. Make that very good. Seemingly he has a residency there every Tuesday night. THE FIELD is not a big place, bands setup just to the left inside the door. Loud but not too loud, Rob on bass & vocals, drummer a...

Wanted: two Avonmore 'Free Flights' tokens

A long shot I know but we need two Avonmore 'Free Flights' tokens. Thirty tokens are required for a flight and the promotion is over. We ended up with twenty eight tokens, despite not being heavy milk users, so if anyone has a couple of tokens that are surplus to requirements, please send a PM. A po...

Re: Ground Loop Hum

Question: are the two amplifiers and the pre-amp all plugged into the same socket or extension block. If not, this ought to be your first test so plug everything into the one extension block.

Anyone selling a keyboard (Yamaha or similar)

As a project, I am trying to learn how to read music. I am starting lessons in January, the course uses a keyboard for the sounds. Lidl have a Yamaha keyboard on offer for around €100, Thomann have many from €100 up. A long shot I know, but has anyone here got a keyboard for sale? If you have, pleas...

A pre-amp with tone controls?

Do such things exist anymore? Most modern and not so modern hi-fi kit have no tone controls as it is suggested that they affect the overall sound quality. In a negative way. The high frequency end of my hearing is 'down' so a bit of treble boost would improve the clarity and counteract, to some exte...
