Re: Jambo81 on Adverts

Hard to make a call on this. Lots of positive feedback, zero negative! A lot of the gear is vintage, so it would be wise to bear in mind that old stuff may not be as reliable as new gear. On the other hand, some gear might have already been recapped / serviced and defective parts upgraded etc. some ...

Re: Electronica - what are you listening to?

Currently listening to …” a chance to cut is a chance to cure” by experimental electronic duo Matmos. Whilst I personally would be reluctant to subscribe to their way of life / philosophy etc, I cannot help but admire their ingenuity / creativity in producing the music they do. From Wikipedia, the f...

Re: What's the most overrated/disappointing gear you bought?

I’ve had a fair bit gear come and go. I changed for changed sake, but tbh all the gear I’ve had was good quality and had some interesting surprises. Some of the changes were a more sideways move as distinct from an advance. Some gear was so so, like a Onkyo amp I once had, good features with a surpr...

Re: Chinese catridges

Thanks for the write up & photos of the Chinese carts. TBH there is very little the Chinese cannot do. Quality is also improving across the board too. Do keep us updated on any further insights you might gather. Certainly is food for thought! Mainstream cart makers should be worried ( if the car...

Re: Record player suggestions

Granted it may be a bit outside the budget, but the Technics decks are very good.

The GR2 is about 2.2K but there is another model 1500 I think which is cheaper.

Clear upgrade path to the grand daddy 1000 series for 22K if you fancy that route!!

Re: Advice please - I want to scan photographic negatives.

All depends on how many is a lot of negatives? 300, 800, 2500+? I think Conns Cameras in Dublin offer scanning of negatives to CD, their website might list prices. But if you are going to do it yourself then a starting point might be an Epson V series scanner. Negatives would be clean and mounted in...

Re: What music are you listening to currently?

Soft Cell>……Non Stop Extended Cabaret…. One of the elements of December 2023’s rapturously received deluxe 6CD box set of Soft Cell’s stone cold 1981 electro pop classic, ‘Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret’, was the inclusion of the entire original album presented as extended 12” versions. Now released on vin...
