Re: So much for my golden ears

Interesting observation Simon, I would suggest giving it a bit more time, perhaps different tracks, vocals, bass heavy etc etc all to discern if there is a difference you can hear based on genre. Perhaps ask the wife what is the difference she can detect, that might help you focus your attention in ...

Re: Mains Supply

Hi Adrian Won't argue with what you are saying the mire research I have done on this the less convinced they are of any tangible benefit. Especially where there is a stable grid voltage which there.is in Ireland Plus filters in the capacitors supplying the transformers on the mono locks are massive...

Re: Primare I32 experience

WRT Copland CS 8............ only one way to find out how it sounds in your room, with your music and through your speakers.

Perhaps contacting the shop for their impression of the amp would be best, tell them your speakers, source & room set up etc

Re: Mains Supply

I’ve no experience with them, or what different types exist etc. However domestic electrical items require unbalanced AC supplies. Fuse protection ( which is a safety device) is normally only found on the line wire, not the neutral. Technically / legally from a safety perspective it’s not advisable ...

Re: Primare I32 experience

I can’t say I’ve compared the two amps you mention. Sound quality depends a lot on the synergy between the amp and speakers ( in my opinion). I’ve had a Primare power amp before, took a while to grow on me ( initial impressions were so so, nothing great going on here). But given enough time I was ve...

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?

Perhaps the Bryson power amp with a nice preamp might be worth a go? I suppose the beauty of a pre / power set up is that it allows flexibility wrt box swapping. WRT class A, the extra running costs, one has to remember that Class A amps generally run at 30 watts or less. So although they run ineffi...

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?

Interesting write up there, certainly have done the rounds!! But did you try a Primare???? Hahahaha...

Perhaps a McIntosh 252 might float the boat?

TBH if you’re keeping the speakers then you are really looking for a certain synergy between the amp & speakers.
