Re: What started you off?
So the first foray midway through secondary school was an Aiwa midi-system. Complete with spectrum analyser. Loved it and immediately spent many a weekend in Abbey Discs or Attack Records in Crown Alley building up the 12" collection of club hits. A schoolyard discussion with a regular on this ...

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?
Oh well done Pearse! And Happy Birthday!
Yes, it's a real cracker. Built like an absolute brick ****house. Weighs a ton. But I think looks very well. It's sonics are superb. Just so natural and airy. With grip as needed. Really made me sit up and take notice.
Hope you love it too!

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?
Some very interesting thoughts there! I've long been a fan of Jadis amps after first hearing the live magic they can bring to the presentation. Over the past number of years, I've demo'd a couple of solid state options vs them in my setup (across very different pairs of speakers) and always found th...

Re: Hifi repair recommendations
Hi Michael, As it happens, last Sunday I was treated to a decidedly mono presentation from my setup after one side of the amps refused to fire up. A couple of basic checks showed that the power supply chassis on one channel was not supplying any juice to the output chassis. But having checked a few ...

Re: Munich hi end 2020
Certainly is a shame that it is cancelled... Hadn't been before and must admit expectation levels were running high! Just thought I'd mention that even if ones flight tickets are non-refundable, the airline is still obliged to refund the airport tax part. Can be worth applying for it as better to ha...

Re: Munich hi end 2020
So I've literally just bought the 3 day pass, only really needing it for Fri and Sat, and then seen your post HiFi fan! Oh well, that'll serve me for not keeping up to date on the thread.. Hopefully another HiFi punter will take you up on the kind offer.
Very much looking forward to it now!

Re: System upgrade - Aavik U-380 + Esoteric P03 Transport + Ansuz Cabling
That's a really fabulous review mcq. Feels like I've just put down a copy of HiFi+! Congrats on the evident synergies you've found with the Aavik, Esoteric and Kharma's. The U-380 must be a real standout performer as the other amps you've mentioned are serious quality too. I've heard the previous it...

Re: Speaker dust grill
I'd be the same as yourself Ivor and always tend to leave them off. Having read some reviews from the likes of Martin Colloms and John Aitkinson, the measurements they take do sometimes show there is a negative impact, usually in the higher frequencies and on things like off axis response, etc. Pers...
