Re: Item Phase IV Computer Audio Recipes
Welcome Rick! Although I've been publishing DIY recipes and doing these builds since 2008, I've always worn on my sleeve a debt of gratitude to CICS/cMP. As far as I'm concerned it's the seminal source for all computer audio information. Unfortunately, the mainstream of this community has been lured...

I've only just started reading the first few pages of this thread, then skipped to the last post . . . and choked on my coffee! Reminded me a bit of Brazil in the World Cup semi-final . . .

Re: EMI RFI Paper
Yea some guys think they've lost bass by putting absorbers on the ram. Which it sort of does in a way but sometimes noise can be confused with bass For me the bass or noise never seemed true So the decision was easy for me I removed the heat sinks as it will reflect It won't get even warm Think hea...

Re: Item Phase IV Computer Audio Recipes
I'm surprised by your findings, Nige . . . the SuperFlower is measurably less noisy than the PicoPSU. Also, with the fan set to Eco rather than Auto, it shouldn't spin up. The cost of the Leadex (branded EVGA in the States) is very similar to the linear bench + Pico. At present, it certainly seems b...

Re: AUDIO PC: Direct power to motherboad 24 and 4pin (picole
The DAT1 reviewed in HiFi World December 2011 was the first of our machines to break cover without the PicoPSU inside. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/hifi_world/vol21_no10/ Getting away from the PicoPSU was in the top three biggest steps we've taken forward, I think. You'll see from the review pix we ...

Re: Item Phase IV Computer Audio Recipes
maybe consider some thing like this. http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5049#ov uses standard atx 24 and 4 pin power. no dc conversion on the board. 2ghz quad core Celeron and only 10watt. you could run this off a linear PS setup or a good PS like leadtek or seasonic. I am gr...

Re: Hard Hitting Audiophile Tweaks
Thanks for putting the X-Sound card on my radar: what was I doing in 2013 to have missed it?!
However, it seems like an awfully long-winded way to skin a cat . . . try one of these with added screening and a good linear:

Re: Hard Hitting Audiophile Tweaks
Off the top of my head, a few general sideways/addition comments on the above: • Always disable unused USB ports in BIOS if your motherboard supports it. • If the budget doesn't stretch to Server, it's possible to drill XP down to under 100 threads. Not only does it sound better than any other OS wh...

Re: Truth or Beauty?
People who pride themselves on their bold, unvarnished honesty - 'calling a spade a spade', 'telling it how it is' - are usually inconsiderate and egotistical. In life, you have to temper truth with tact. Similarly, 100%, literal candour isn't necessarily truthful on the larger scale or a deeper lev...
