I remember some spectacularly fine LP recordings that were not successfully transferred to cd like Haitink´s The Planets and Scheherazade on Philips. And on the contrary, some LP´s that didn´t sound too good when first released were very successfully transferred to cd like DG Falla´s La Vida Breve. ...

The soloists are nowhere as good as in the Solti recording, and Boulez is his usual clinical, analytical self, but I still enjoyed the discipline and sense of purpose of the performance. Oh yes Fergus, granted that he is no Mozart. But Antonio Salieri was a very fine composer on his own and he most certainly should be investigated. The Bartoli disc would be a wonderful place to start.
