Re: Bristol HiFi Show 2023 Report

Great write up Claus - seems like it was a very enjoyable show and one to watch for the future. For those who might be streaming, the hifipig playlist on Qobuz from the show is well worth a listen, Some good stuff on it. Was there many stands there selling vinyl, accessories etc? Reading that certai...

Re: Free Quad 57s

Good luck with them @peelaa - they are a gorgeous speaker when running right. Get them up off the floor about 18" and pretty much vertical. If the HT is tired, do the diodes and caps in the power supply, check if the resistors in the audio transformer have drifted off. Put in a protection syste...

Re: WTB: Acrylic dust cover

If you don't get lucky with someone here.... sora-shop.de make covers to order and they aren't too dear. You need to be careful on the measurements, and the final product is not a one piece mould, but held together with little bolts. All together its very neat though, I got one from them for a turnt...

Re: AnPost AddressPal -- Any experience?

Its a mix James. Some of the stuff has come from ebay and I asked the sender to declare value on the outside. In other cases its from an individual and truly I don't know how they assess. All I can say is they haven't screwed me yet, and as far as I can see the VAT is what you'd expect. I would have...

Re: AnPost AddressPal -- Any experience?

Addresspal will assess and calculate VAT.

You have to take into account the cost to travel to Newry or whereever - they way the cost of fuel is now, and the chances you will stop for a coffee etc on the way all could add 40e to the cost easily.

Re: Thoughts on Sound Quality and Music

I think its all subjective..... take the evening with your BIL - the music was important, but was it as important as the gathering and craic? I would say you could have had your tinny cassette deck there and it would have been as good. I've seen similar but with someone just playing off the loudspea...

Re: AnPost AddressPal -- Any experience?

I use addresspal quite a bit, mainly now from the USA. It works very well indeed. You will pay VAT and customs (usually miniscule) and a handling fee, I think its 5.99. The way it works - you sign up with addresspal, they give you a UK address. Then when the delivery gets to that UK address, they do...
