Re: Broken Remote? How do I check?

Sometimes you can turn on the camera on a phone and look at the IR LED as you press a button on the remote and the camera will "see" the ir light that is invisible to the human eye. I have a little transistor tester gadget that also can see the IR and give you the code it uses. Not much us...

Re: Where do folks buy their physical media?

I did a test order with jazzmessengers when I saw your post - they shipped today, so lets see what turns up in a weeks or so.

Re: Qobuz and Tidal

Very interesting. The reason for my experimenting with this is that I have made up a DAC with a bluetooth input. I intended this for very casual listening but it sounds far better than I thought it would. It uses LDAC for the transfer......

Re: Qobuz and Tidal

Yep, I did a bit of googling around last night after posting that, and the file differences are what most people point to. Its one of those counter-intuitive things I think. Interesting that although BT has compression (there are new codecs coming out all the time) I would have said it was easy enou...

Qobuz and Tidal

I've been messing about with bluetooth connections, and experimenting a bit with both Tidal and Qobuz. Definitely there is better sound quality with Qobuz... but I am failing at finding a reason why (dynamics and sparkle, maybe a bit tighter resolved bass). Both are simply streaming off the phone to...

Re: Are you getting yourself anything nice for Xmas?

It very much depends on what you want to spend! If you start to move into boutique caps, z-foil resistors and the like, well then the money rockets. Same for the case. However, there does seem to be a sweet spot that will probably put you around 300-400, and then add a chassis after that. If you wan...

Re: Are you getting yourself anything nice for Xmas?

Georgi - if you are up for some DIY, the AD1862 from miro1360 on diyaudio is excellent. Use it with a valve output stage and you will get some of the very best of sound for smallish money. https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/dac-ad1862-almost-tht-i2s-input-nos-r-2r.354078/page-152#post-688700...

Anyone got an old classic receiver for dumping?

As it says above..... I'm on the hunt for an old classic receiver - you know the old kind with a wooden sleeve. This is going to be ripped apart internally, so I'm looking for something that is not working, is completely electrically banjaxed, but cosmetically OK. Ideally something with loads of swi...

Re: Wanted: Loan/Rent of LP flattening machine

There are a good few guides online on how to do it with plate glass and domestic ovens. Obviously care is needed :)
