Re: Help me buy my first gear?
The good news is that you should definitely get sorted out for the budget you have. On the AV front - do you want to go Atmos, or are you looking for eg 7.1? There are very capable 7.1 amps out there secondhand as people move towards Atmos etc. What size room are you planning to put it in - are you ...

Re: Active analogue high pass/ low pass filter
In short, I've looked at this a few times but never did it. The other system that is maybe easier to do is to do the split at line level and then amplify after that. Designs for these passive line level crossovers are out there but again, never tried them. In theory it would be a lot easier to do th...

Re: Resitor brands effects sound quality
Yep, seems impossible, but it totally does make a difference, and not just in crossovers either. In certain critical spots, the type can make quite a difference. OF course cost comes into it!!

Re: Where do folks buy their physical media?
I bought 3 records from jazzmessengers in Barcelona - I picked 3 that I had wanted to have, but not necessarily wanted the very best pressings ever. So the ones I bought were just waxtime/DOL type reissues at 15e each, so 45 total, and free shipping that took just 8 days. They arrived well packed, I...

Re: Are you getting yourself anything nice for Xmas?
As I sit here I see:
2 dacs with valve output stages
2 valve phonostages
valve preamp
Current power amp is solid state.... but the valves circle in and out.
Valves of course don't need to add distortion!

The purists all say that a tube buffer only adds distortion and noise, but I think if it sounds good, then its not a bad thing.
