Re: Allman Brothers....

[/quote] I also have that box set which cost me nothing as I bought it with Christmas voucher. I didn't really need it but I got it anyway as you do :) I was disappointed that there was no booklet included. As for the sound you just cannot even think of comparing it to the originals. As you say ther...

Re: Allman Brothers....

I picked up the 4LP Boxset recently and boy was I disappointed. It is so dead and lifeless, when you hear the original Capricorn Pink label original this just pales in comparison. I thought I was getting a good deal with 20% off, unfortunately for me it was no bargain!

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

Just in case you haven't read the review on the 8's here it is in full. Enjoy :) http://www.sacom.ch/bilder/news/testberichte/HFW_Quadral_Chromium_0316_en.pdf Yeah, thanks for that, I had read it but nice to have it on file for keepsake. Do you have any links to other Quadral loudspeaker review, th...

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

The main thing is not to rush into any decision. It has to feel it is something you WANT to do! I had some spare cash (can't figure out how that happened, ha!) and the 'casual' visit I paid to Cloney Audio was well worthwhile!

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

I know exactly what you mean regarding not disturbing the sound you already have. That is why I tend to change speakers, I am afraid to upset the balance of the sound I have spent years tweaking to my satisfaction.

I stopped upgrading on a regular basis years ago, so I am really enjoying this one.

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

Firstly, Noel did mention being pestered by a guy to bring in Quadral. Where did you first hear of them? I heard the Chromium Style 8s in the upstairs demo room and I was impressed by them immediately, I also heard the Rhodium 400s downstairs had it been the other way round maybe I wouldn't have bee...

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

Here they are. Top one is a NA Ace Space unipivot on an Analogue Works Tom Fletcher derivative spinner. The arm is brand new :) My previous one was the quirky Wand plus and before that the OL Alliance arm. I never liked its looks from the pics I had seen but I eventually succumbed to buying one whe...

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

I had to make my own cover for the LP12 as the original lid wouldn't fit. The lid I made comes out over the turntable so not much dust gets into the fluid. Really enjoying the sound of the Quadrals, a good investment. I used to change my gear regularly, but once I got the Well TEMPERED and the Croft...

Re: Quadral Chromium Style 8

That's the thing, there is no bearing! The arm sits in a vat of viscous fluid, you achieve damping by raising or lowering the base in the viscous fluid. If you look closely at the pic, behind the main pillar is the small circular bowl with the viscous fluid. Bill Firebaugh was definitely onto someth...
