Re: Rock - what are you listening to?

Leave Pink Moon until last Dave even though the NME Book of Rock (sic) says it contains his finest guitar (acoustic) work. Start with his first one Five Leaves Left, followed by Bryter Later and ending up with Pink Moon; he only made three albums in his lifetime! The real treasure trove is outlined ...

Re: second hand gear

How are you getting on with your pre/power Croft setup, cybot? If I remember correctly your post on the old forum, you were particularly impressed with their ability to play all types of music?

http://media.comicmix.com/media/2008/10/22/dexter-main.jpg Cant stop watching this amazing series. I agree. I've been enjoying it on FX immensely. I also enjoyed the first series of Breaking Bad but - for some reason - FX didn't show the second series. Deadwood was excellent. It's a pity HBO pulled...

Re: second hand gear

I've heard a lot of good things about the Music First and the Gamut as well. I'd certainly settle down and enjoy the music if I were you and forget about upgrading. It's very easy to read the hifi magazines and browse the hifi forums and get excited about the latest and greatest piece of equipment a...

Re: Electronica - what are you listening to?

Interesting, but I wonder whether we would approach the music in the same way if it was marketed as an actual piece of music as opposed to something that is simply designed to induce a hypnogogic state. Seems a bit contrived to me, but I'm sure something similar is used in subliminal TV advertising ...

Re: second hand gear

Some interesting stuff added to Cloney's preowned section recently. I wouldnt mind getting a listen to that Master Reference turntable. Some nice amps there too...Lavardin, Wavac.. That Lavardin IT is a masterpiece, Dave. Don't be fooled by the 50 watts output - it contains more power than you'll e...

Re: Electronica - what are you listening to?

Have a listen to this. I'm a big fan of Iannis Xenakis' work in the classical field but his endeavours in electronic music are worth hearing as well. This piece is entitled La Legende d'Eer and is an elecroacoustic work written in the late 1970s. It was originally wriiten for seven channels and you ...

If you enjoy Gombert's music, Ciaran, The Tallis Scholars' recordings of his complete Magnificats on Gimell (on two CDs) are absolutely essential. This is profoundly beautiful music...

http://www.musicweb-international.com/classRev/2009/Mar09/Nielsen_symphonies_Kuchar_92885.jpg I may well check that one out Seán as I struggle a bit with the 4th and 5th and I find the 6th a real struggle so another interpretation may well help in that direction. That is a fantastic set of performa...
