Re: Looking for some Floorstanders up to €3,000 (new price)

These open baffle factory direct speakers http://www.pureaudioproject.com/trio15- ... ioproject/ have garnered good reviews but haven't heard them personally.

Re: How do I begin?

Hi tipdrinker, If you're not too fixed on the 1k price point, you should listen to a few music systems at different price points to decide what kind of sums you would be happy spending based on the improvements you would be getting. Since you're looking for something for the long haul, I would recom...

Re: Hifi-AV store in Dublin Town?

"I'd doubt if there is anybody below the age of 35 on here". "How would you differentiate yourself from the likes of Cloney Audio?" There is a billion brands in audio, you can start by importing stuff others don't, from italy, japan, france, whatever. Having (at least some) diff...

Re: Hifi-AV store in Dublin Town?

Regarding the comment about Cloney`s customer service, all I can say is that the disgruntled ones are usually the above type of chancer or someone doing their nut because a drive unit for a 30 year old speaker can`t be sourced or when it has been will not pay for it. You would not believe the hoops...

Re: CD Ripping Ruled Illegal in UK

To the best of my knowledge copyright law tends to extend to commercial exploitation and public diffusion (except for video recording from TV which only allows for time-shifted viewing) - no idea about law here but from the 1956 UK act: The copyright in a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work...

Re: CD Ripping Ruled Illegal in UK

Very strange ruling, I thought copyright law going back to the 1950s (with reel to reel technology) allowed copying purely for personal usage.

Re: Looking for some Floorstanders up to €3,000 (new price)

With the Sterling and Dollar prices very high against the Euro, you may get a wee bit more bang for your buck buying a speaker brand based in the Euro-zone, via a Euro-zone distributor/retailer rather than a UK one (unless its a very new model reflecting the current exchange rate at both ends). Tech...

Re: Hifi-AV store in Dublin Town?

Hi Tercesire I think it could work but you might need some sort of Fergal Quinn type to discover what really appeals to would-be customers. Richer Sounds failed because they had appalling customer service. Cloney's is the big man on the block. It has a faithful following but it would not be an exagg...

Re: Dynamic Compression Simply Explained

Interesting article though I wouldn't be so sure the effects of analogue dynamic compression can be replicated in the digital domain with relative ease. Since digital came on the scene in the early 80s, even many of its fans felt it was too thin for bass, and often recorded bass and percussion on de...

Re: re capping crossovers / rough drivers units

Changing from electrolytics to polypropylene caps in old speakers can sometimes be a bad move. Might be best to reverse the process to take stock of the sound characteristic and try some new electrolytics to see if there is any significant improvement - buy a few since there is a lot of variation in...
