Re: Rock - what are you listening to?
Played an ep promo of Photo Finish and it blew me to far side of the house. Don't ever remember it sounding this good! Actually the Chrysalis albums sound a lot more pumped up than his other albums. Definitely a drive towards a more commercial sound but such guitar playing! Kudos to Alan O'Duffy an...

Most of Rory's output wes rereleased on friday on vinyl but have been spinning this for most of the weekend, one of his last but imho one of his best. A mega player but a really underrated songwriter too....see Continental op or Loanshark Blues for example http://www.rorygallagher.com/images/defend...

Re: Tube Amp Rejuvenation Project :)
What option did you go with or was the ultra linear wiring removed to go pure pentode (beam tetrode in this case)?Remove the Ultra Linear/Triode mode options (remove wiring and switches linked to it)

Re: Cautionary tale about KT 88 tubes
Although the 6550 and the KT-88 are not quite the same tube (35 watts plate dissipation versus normatively 40 watts, and a 15kohm plate resistance versus 12 kohms), the tubes are pretty close characteristically, which may lead some manufacturers to issue one design under different labels, so would b...

Re: Tisbury Audio.....
so its not a bad idea to know what that is when looking at tvc personally if going with transformer volume control id be looking at a large step down 3:1 or greater meaning its input would need to be amplified to maybe 4 or 5v on my list of stuff to try Although not nearly as dramatic an impedance ...

Re: Tisbury Audio.....
The one thing I would say about buffers is that they are controversial to some audio sorts because emitter-followers or cathode-followers (the tube equivalent) treat the signal to 100% local negative feedback where all a given active device's gain is traded for a commensurate reduction in impedance...

Re: Tisbury Audio.....
Again thanks for the tips Rob. I think I'll stick with my actives :) Hello Cybot, I hope it didn't seem that I was trying to pressure you into getting a passive - my post was a response to the discussion between yourself, Nige and Abraxalito, with my two cents about the way in which passive designs...

Re: Tisbury Audio.....
If truth be told I was more interested in the passive pre option as I've never heard what a passive pre can bring to the table. When I think of passive I think airy highs, transparency and no bass ;) Anyway I honestly can't see a use for either in my system. So I don't really know exactly where the...
