HD-PLEX Linear Supply - Landed...

Just a quick update regarding the HD-PLEX Power supply, which is now supplying my NUC. Some initial listening sounds very promising with Oscar Peterson track sounding great. Very hard to a/b as it requires restart and sometimes a swop of USB drives...

Great packaging and seems very well build. Should have come from Germany but came from Hong Kong so 16 euro of duty was due on arrival... Will report back as I listen some more.

PS: It has a spare 12V supply that I am trying to find use for... Would it be worth using it for my NAS? (need to track down a spare 2.1mm cable then)...

Just got a huge ground loop problem! As soon as I connect the USB for the ciunas it appears. I assume it is the added grounding of the NUC power supply that causes the problem, as it stops when powered by a non grounded laptop ps. If any one has any tips I am all ears! Thanks, Claus

between the amp and the new hd plex ps?
only when you bridge the rca gnd from amp with usb gnd from nuc?

bet the new ps is gnded to earth
not sure thats necessary

what way are you charging the ciunas?

I took out all connections to the NUC and it stopped but started as soon as I connected back the ciunas (it is charging from USB on NUC but had no effect). I am sure it is the ground on the new PS that is causing it, but a bit nervous to remove the earthing on this device...

Nice looking unit Claus. It looks like all the usual delivery issues unfortunately with the HDPlex stuff. I think (Larry is the name?) won a contract to supply small green computer fanless cases and as a result is often out of stock.

Yeah they are a great LPS. Supply 1 x 12v and 1 x 19v and come with a good variety of quality DC leads. I've acquired 3 of these units as seperate transanctions over the last 2 months. Arrived from HK to NZ within 5 days of order with free shipping and a healthy discount if you already own a HDplex case. No sign obvious sign of any impact due to the contract you are referring to Tony for me. Maybe a bonus in living in NZ.

Also have a HDplex H1S case for a new build for my office Headphone only Jplay/AO setup. These look better quality than my 2 x Streacom FC05's in my main Jplay/AO system.

The case should be earthed but I'm not sure the output ground needs to be
Don't think the maplins output gnd was earthed I'll check later
A maplin could be turned up to 16v which probably would power the nuc no problem
But definitely not as pretty

Maybe take the lid of the hdd plex and take a pic

Nige2000.....I recently followed up on a recommendation you made in another forum to use one of these "Raptor 30 NiMH Battery Pack 4.8v 4600mAh Twin Connector" each for SSD/OS and PPA USB3.0 V2 card - They were impressive for such little outlay. Now interested as to LIFEP04 being another step up on the Raptors.

hi and welcome Frizzup

raw power from cells is best because theres no circuitry to add noise or restrict esr,(not to mention cheaper )
lifepo4 is just a faster quieter battery than nimh,
although using 2 lifepo4 cells in series to produce 5v isnt really optimal (supposed to be 6.6v at 5v there in a minimum charge state)
just sounds too good not to use em

just make sure there under 5.5 v before you connect them to your gear

are you familar with the floating charge system?

Looks very tidy inside! But I had the exact same problem when using a laptop charger with earth. Am I risking death if I remove the earth on the power cord? Nothing in Denmark has earth so...
